RACGP Expert Committee – Standards for General Practices
Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP)
Expression of Interest due date: 27 May 2026, 1:00PM (AEST)
What’s this about?
General practices are accredited against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) Standards for general practices (the Standards). The Standards describe requirements for safe, high‑quality and person‑centred care in Australian general practice. Accreditation against the Standards is voluntary. An updated sixth edition is being finalised and is expected to be published in 2026.
The Standards include:
• how patient information is managed
• health promotion and prevention activities
• practice management
• accessibility
• how practices support patient rights and needs
The RACGP Expert Committee – Standards for General Practices (REC-SGP) informs the oversight, review and implementation of the Standards. The REC-SGP is primarily responsible for:
Developing and updating the general practice standards and support materials.
Making sure that the standards describe good quality practice and are not influenced by government policies or programs.
Keeping track of how relevant standards are being developed and used in Australia and other countries.
Setting up a clear way for organisations that assess practices against the general practice standards to ask questions and get consistent advice on how the standards should be applied.
Informing clear and timely communication about the standards across the RACGP, its members, the wider medical profession, and the Australian community.
The REC-SGP also contributes expertise to other associated projects, RACGP position statements, submissions, guidelines, resources and tools aimed at supporting the general practices.
