General Practice Accreditation – Consumer Roundtable and Resources Review

Department of Health, Disability and Ageing

Expression of Interest due date: 7th April 2026

What’s this about?

General practices are accredited against the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP) ‘Standards for General Practice’. These standards are voluntary and describe how a general practice should be run. They cover things including:

  • how patient information is managed

  • health promotion and prevention activities

  • practice management

  • accessibility

  • how practices support patient rights and needs

The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has asked the Consumers Health Forum (CHF) to run a roundtable consultation into consumer general practice views. The aim is to better understand what consumers know about general practice accreditation and how it relates to their experience of safe, quality care.

The consultation group will also review draft consumer fact sheets about general practice accreditation.

What’s the opportunity?

CHF is inviting up to 30 health consumers who have accessed a general practice service in the last 12 months to join a two-part engagement opportunity.

Part 1: Online roundtable consultation - Wednesday April 15th 1:00-2:30pm (AEST)

The roundtable consultation will explore the following key topics:

  • What matters most to you when it comes to safe, quality care at a general practice

  • How you know a practice is providing safe and quality care

  • Whether your understanding of safety and quality affects which general practice service you choose

  • What information consumers need to understand general practice standards

  • What helps or limits a general practice in providing safe, quality care

Part 2: Online consultation (resource review) - Wednesday May 27th 1:00-2:30pm (AEST)

The consultation will review and provide feedback on draft ‘Why general practice accreditation is important’ fact sheets.
