What’s the opportunity
CHF is creating a Consumer Assembly which will inform, advise and shape CHFs work. There will be up to 20 founding Assembly Members recruited.
For the Consumer Assembly to work we want to engage with consumers and understand their lived-experience, which will help shape the ongoing work of CHF. We are doing this because we are a consumer-informed organisation and it aligns with our reason for existing and values.
Members of the Assembly will be remunerated per meeting for a 12-month term. The first meeting is tentatively scheduled for Thursday 19 June 2025.
What will the Assembly do?
The Assembly will collaborate with the CHF team on our funded work with Government, our policy submissions, educational resources and other work which we need consumer insights on. Specifically, Members of the Assembly will provide their thoughts and guidance on:
Policy submissions, workshops, educational resources, webinars, and digital campaigns.
Consumer development projects, including peer mentoring, a consumer leadership program, and national best practice tools.
Resources for health professionals and organisations, helping ensure CHF content is accessible, representative, and informed by consumers.
Ways CHF can work with consumers to build their capacity to advocate and represent themselves and their communities.
Who will be in the Assembly?
It is important for us that the Assembly reflects the diversity of the Australian community. To make sure this happens, CHF will recruit members of the Assembly who:
Have lived-experience as a health consumer and/or carer
Are connected to diverse groups including First Nations, Disability, Culturally and Linguistically Diverse, LGBTIQA+, youth and older adults and rural and remote communities.
People who are interested in improving the Australian healthcare system
Have had experience in consumer health advocacy.
If you have some or all of these attributes, then we want to hear from you.
Why should I apply?
You should apply if you want to help CHF’s work continue to be influenced by the experiences of consumers. We want to hear from people who are happy to share their lived-experience and for that experience to help shape and influence Australia’s healthcare system and make it better.
What you need to do to apply?
if you’d love to help with this work, we'd love to hear from you.
We are asking people to fill out an expression of interest form to tell us a bit more about yourself and answer five questions about why you are a good fit for the Assembly. If you need a more accessible way to complete the EOI questions, you can email the CHF team at admin@chf.org.au and we can arrange a time to do the EOI with you over the phone.
The questions are:
Tell us a little about yourself and your experience as a healthcare consumer. This doesn’t need to be a full history, a short summary is fine.
Why are you interested in joining CHF’s Consumer Assembly?
What do you hope to contribute, and what do you hope to gain from participating?
Have you had any previous experience participating in consumer advisory groups or doing consumer advocacy? If so, tell us a little about your experience.
Is there anything else you would like to tell us to support your application?
If you have any questions about the CHF’s Consumer Assembly, please contact our Consumer Engagement team at admin@chf.org.au.
Expressions of interest close on Friday 16 May 2025 at 5pm AEST.
