Australian Commission for Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC)
What’s this about?
The Australian Commission on Safety and Quality in Health Care (ACSQHC) is updating the Australian Guidelines for the Prevention and Control of Infection in Healthcare. These guidelines help healthcare services prevent and manage infections effectively.
The new edition will expand beyond hospitals to include primary care and community care settings, making it more relevant to everyday healthcare experiences.

What’s the opportunity?
A Guideline Development Group is being established to support the guideline development. The group members include experts from clinical practice, research, and consumer experience. Your voice will help ensure the guidelines reflect what matters most to patients and families.
This Expression of Interest is for the Primary/Community Care Consumer Representative role.
As a GDG member, you will:
Review evidence provided to the group (including summaries of research findings from systematic reviews).
Share your perspective on the new and updated recommendations (including good practice statements) for the prevention and control of infections particularly in primary and community care settings.
Contribute to discussions that shape recommendations for the updated guidelines.
Note: The GDG provides advice based on evidence but does not make final decisions or inform technical advice regarding guideline implementation.
Who should apply?
You’re encouraged to apply if you:
Have experience or an interest in infection controls in primary and community healthcare settings.
Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
Have some experience with health policy or guideline development (e.g., reviewing evidence or participating in consultations).
Have been involved in consumer engagement activities (such as advisory groups, committees, or consultations).
What you’ll need to do:
If selected, you’ll be asked to:
Join 6 online meetings (up to 1 hour each) between February 2026 and November 2026.
Read up to 1 hour of background material before meetings. Pre-reading to be shared with members one week prior to meetings.
If required, a pre-meeting with ACSQHC staff may be organised to support the individual panel members with pre-meeting expectations and requirements.
Share your views on the available evidence shared with the GDG members and provide a consumer perspective to inform new or updated infection controls in health care guideline recommendations.
You’ll be paid the standard ACSQHC Committee Member remuneration rates that start at $398 for 0-2 hours teleconference sitting fees.
Note: If the GDG is asked to do any extra work outside of scheduled meetings, it will be paid at standard hourly rate and limited to agreed time limits.
