Artificial intelligence is already becoming part of healthcare, but consumers want it used to strengthen care rather than replace it. While many see benefits in reducing waiting times, improving communication, and giving clinicians more time with patients, support depends on AI being used as a tool to assist healthcare professionals rather than make decisions about diagnosis, treatment, or access to care.

Consumers are calling for a healthcare system where AI is transparent, accountable, and designed around their needs and rights. The findings show that trust relies on clear communication, clinician oversight, informed consent, strong data protections, and safeguards to prevent bias and inequity.

AI should be implemented with consumers, not simply applied to them, with governance that puts safety, equity, and consumer choice at the centre.
