Joint Medicines Policy Conference - Pre-conference consumer workshop


Medicines Australia and the Department of Health and Ageing held the Third Joint Medicines Policy Conference in Canberra on 30 and 31 August 2011.

The theme of the conference was Health Technology Assessment for Future Generations focuses on the challenges faced by Government, the medicines industry and consumers in ensuring a sustainable Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) for all Australians. The conference featured a range of keynote speakers and will consider the recent Australian Government report into Health Technology Assessment and its recommendations.

On Monday 29 August 2011, prior to the Joint Medicines Policy Conference, Medicines Australia and the Consumers Health Forum (CHF) co-hosted a pre-conference consumer workshop, Medicines, Health Technologies and Reform. This workshop aimed to:

  • Consider recent health reforms and the review of health technology assessment
  • Explore the importance of collaboration in the development and implementation of reform
  • Identify consumer issues to take forward to the Joint Medicines Policy Conference.

Approximately 30 consumer participants attended the pre-conference workshop.
