Operational Guidelines for Sponsorship and Advertising
The Consumers Health Forum of Australia (CHF) Operational Guidelines for Sponsorship and Advertising are to be used in conjunction with the Preamble to Operational Guidelines for Public Affairs.
1. Sponsorship and advertising
CHF accepts limited sponsorship and advertising within the following parameters:
- the strategic direction
- priority areas of work
- established policy position
- current project work
- budgetary constraint
- acknowledges the range of members views
- recognises the independent voice of member organisations
CHF recognises the role appropriate sponsorship and advertising can play in supporting its activities:
- sponsorship is generally limited to the sponsor being acknowledged by name (while CHF maintains its editorial, advocacy independence)
- advertising provides organisations with the ability to reach consumer organisations, government, industry and individuals with specific interest in consumer health issues.
2. Responsibility/Delegation
Sponsorship
The Executive Director has authority to recommend, proposals for sponsorship to the Executive Committee within the Governing Committee policies.
Advertising
The Executive Director has the responsibility to accept advertising.
3. Clearance
Sponsorship and advertising activities shall operate within the following guidelines:
- CHF has been provided with a suitable timeframe to allow for review within CHF
- sponsorship or advertising shall only be provided when they are consumer focused, and do not expose CHF or its members to legal or financial responsibility or risk
- all advertisements must meet the requirements of the appropriate regulatory bodies
- when CHF sponsorship or advertising will relate to or impact on a funding organisation such as the Australian Government, consideration should be given to the potential impact of the sponsorship and advertising, and where appropriate, the need to provide the funding organisation with information relation to the sponsorship or advertising
- the company, organisation or individual seeking sponsorship or advertising ensures that quality parameters are in place for the specified term of any sponsorship or advertising agreement
- the full nature of the sponsorship or advertising is specified in writing
- CHF reserves the right to withdraw sponsorship or advertising at any time
- CHF reserves the right to charge a fee for the sponsorship or advertising
- The Executive Director
〈 in relation to sponsorship refers the information and their own recommendation to the Executive
Committee for sign off; and
〈 shall approve advertising
- the Executive Committee shall approve sponsorship.

5. Secretariat - Office Procedures and Documentation
- Requests for sponsorship and advertising shall be in writing and be in accordance with the Secretariat Office Procedures – for Handling Sponsorship and Advertising.
